<image:title>About - About Me I have always loved glass. The deep shining jewel colours which change throughout the day with the light, and cast colourful shadows in sunlight. The black lines which set off the colours so perfectly. After studying for a design degree, I discovered stained glass evening classes near my home, and started my journey in the world of glass. It was a revelation. I worked on the techniques, enjoying the freedom to design and make what I wanted. On moving to Bristol, I signed up to Bath College’s Decorative Glass City and Guilds course, which enabled me to develop my artistic and technical abilities with glass. I create panels and windows to commission, designing and making individual artworks for public buildings and private individuals. Stained glass panels are a great way to express individuality, and add colour and movement to your environment. I also restore, resize, and maintain existing traditional stained glass windows. I have been teaching stained glass techniques and fusing since 2009, and I love watching new students build up their confidence as they learn how to work with glass. Everyone learns in different ways, and students produce such an astonishing range of artworks. The act of making is so beneficial. I have taught young carers at Bath Abbey, pupils at Hayesfield Secondary School in Bath, and have done courses for the Wellbeing College. I have also recently taught classes at the prestigious Folk House in Bristol. I give presentations to large and small groups, both on Zoom and in person. My talks explain the process and history of stained glass, and include the hidden benefits of learning a craft. Talks can be tailor made for individual audiences.</image:title>

<image:title>Gallery - Leaf window - This small window is completely filled with two vertical stems of geometrically arranged leaves. All leaves are cut from varied textured clear glass except for one, which is a pale green. This encourages the eye to rest there. The window is generally obscured, but as the background is made of float glass, by getting up close to the window a selective view is available. The window is mounted against a double glazed panel, with the lead and glass textures facing the inside.</image:title>

<image:caption>This hallway screen in a Victorian house had previously been glazed with sixties glass and was in desperate need of an overhaul. The design is simple, using four elements: the blue roundels, the red border, the lines which continue between panels giving cohesion, and the clear baroque glass which distorts the background.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Gallery - Noahs Ark, Winsford Primary School</image:title>
<image:caption>Noah’s Ark This window was commissioned to celebrate and signpost a room of sanctuary at Winford Primary School in Somerset. By using white opaque glass and a shape that spans the height of the window, the design emphasises the dove which brings hope. The rainbow is a prominent feature, and the number of black lead lines separating the colours is minimised by fusing sections of two colours onto clear glass before leading up.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Gallery - Noahs Ark, Winsford Primary School</image:title>
<image:caption>The window shows the turbulent sea on the left becoming calm on the right hand side, the rolling dark purples and greys subsiding into horizontal turquoises and greens, lit by the rays of the sun. The ark is positioned centrally, and is small to suggest a background presence. It is painted with traditional glass paint which is then fired in a kiln. Textured glass, particularly rippled water glass, was used to give privacy to the activities taking place in the sanctuary room.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This window is at Keynsham Health Centre, and was commissioned to celebrate the continual use of the site for healthcare purposes since 1837. The design uses the shape of the tree to give an upward, positive feeling to the doctor’s waiting room, along with the palette of rainbow colours as background. The roots of the tree symbolise the history of the site and the old Keynsham Hospital is depicted at the base, along with lettering and an ammonite which is an emblem of the town, in traditional glass paint.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gallery - Tree of life, Keynsham Health Centre - The use of reamy clear glass for the tree as focal point against a coloured background is unusual, but enables the tree to stand out, with the folds in the glass resembling the texture of bark, and allows a brighter, lighter feel to the window, which was necessary in this indoor setting with lower light levels. The window is made up of four separate panels, which are encapsulated within double glazing just inside the entrance to the Health Centre.</image:title>
<image:caption>Due to the size of the top two sections, external steel bars were used to add strength: pieces of copper wire are soldered on to the lead and then wrapped around the bar to inhibit movement. The horizontal lines become a part of the design.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The cups were formed with fused glass, allowing the stripes and polka dot patterning to be free of black lines. The wording was screen printed using traditional glass paint, which was then fused in the kiln to form a permanent part of the glass. These pieces were then leaded together to form the finished window. It was important that clear glass was used predominantly in order to allow safe passage into the coffee shop.</image:caption>

<image:title>Gallery - Art Nouveau Hallway Screen - Art Nouveau Hallway screen</image:title>
<image:caption>This large hallway screen was inspired by Art Nouveau curves and colours. It is made up of five separate leaded panels, and the use of long sweeping lines connects the design so that it reads as one window. It is crafted from beautiful English handmade glass, which incorporates folds and bubbles and has a very distinctive glossy shine. Fitted into woodwork , the way the light strikes individual pieces of glass can be enjoyed. In the background you can see the suggestion of a further 8 small panels in and around the front door. The type of glass used is very different, as obscurity is required for privacy, but similar colours are chosen for continuity.</image:caption>
